Ancient Browsers (also known as "Legacy" Browsers) are browsers which do not support modern web technologies such as XHTML, CSS and the W3C DOM, or which contain excessive bugs in their implementations of these.
These browsers are not supported by The Vistua Hub or any other official Vistua Network web-sites and are likewise unsupported by many leading websites of the 21st century.
The Vistua Network Organization has decided to drop explicit support for these ancient browsers because it is too difficult and often impossible to create standards-compliant, attractive and forwards-looking web-pages which look and behave exactly as intended without the use of the modern technologies mentioned.
The Vistua Hub is designed according to W3C and other web standards, The Vistua Hub is well-formed, valid XHTML 1.0 transitional and style information is seperated well from content information. As a result of this, the Hub is expected to degrade gracefully in these browsers.
Some or all functions of the Vistua Groupware sites may be preserved on these browsers but no guarantee of suitability is made and no official support for issues with Vistua Groupware is available to users of Ancient Browsers.
(On an informational basis only, at the time of writing, the Hub was tested in text-only browsers, including Lynx, and was found to display intelligibly. The groupware applications do not work well in Lynx and similar browsers. Support for Lynx and other similar browsers is unofficial.)
Ancient Browsers shall be defined as:
* = Some of these browser versions are not ancient in the sense of age, however they contain bugs which prevent proper support or outright do not support a relevent web standard. In most cases these bugs cause layout errors and not functionality degradation, however, this cannot be guaranteed.
Rendering engines older than the versions included with the browsers indicated above are not supported.
In general, a browser must pass the Acid2 Test to be supported.
As an exception to this policy: minor layout errors in MSIE versions in the 7 series are deemed acceptable because of bugs in this browser, uses of MISE 7 and earlier are encouraged to migrate to another browser or a more recent version of MSIE.
