This site is designed to work in any modern, standards complaint browser. Vistua.com and the Groupware applications have been tested and verified to work with Mozilla Firefox 2.0 and higher and all versions of Google Chrome and Apple Safari. This site is also reported to work in MS Internet Explorer versions 8 and higher and Opera versions later than 8, although we have not tested this. This site is known to have minor layout bugs in versions if MS Internet Explorer 7 and earlier. Please refer to our ancient browsers policy.
The Groupware applications may have reduced functionality in older browsers, the calendar application is known to not work correctly in Opera versions earlier than 10.
You do not need any plugins. Vistua.com was designed to avoid plugins because it is our opinion that web-plugins are at odds with good design philosophy and should be phased out. However helper applications for viewing PDF and DjVu documents are needed to view those files. Vistua.com may link to pages that require plugins, however.
There is currently one exception to this, some pages may embed videos from Youtube and similar sites. This requires the Adobe Flash plugin.
Vistua.com was developed for use in screens with a display resolution of 1024×768 or greater. Smaller resolutions should still work but will be cut off at the left or right edges, the site has been designed to require a minimum of horizontal scrolling in those cases.
For full functionality Vistua.com is intended for use in desktop browsers. However, a read only version suitable for the small screens and limited capacity of mobile browsers is also available. Simply visit www.vistua.com on your mobile and you will be automatically given mobile formatted pages. (The Vistua Network Organization does not charge for this service but your cellular carrier may, please check with their billing department if you are not sure.)
Screen-readers have not been tested with this site. Text-only browsers may work with this site but are not specifically supported and are not compatible with the Groupware applications.

The vistua.com site uses XHTML and CSS for support across a variety of browsers (see above) as well as a small amount of Javascript. The Groupware uses much more Javascript and you must have Javascript turned on to use the Groupware applications. HTTP cookies are set by this both vistua.com and the groupware and required for some functions of the former and to log into the latter.
The vistua.com backend is on a FreeBSD 7 server with Apache 2 and runs on the PmWiki platform.
