Journal: Field Testing

We are currently undergoing an operating system Field Test. This test will be conducted for several days to ensure suitability.

It is hoped that the Intel Video Regression is repaired in this operating system version, however, if you experience a frozen system instructions may be found on the front of the station.

This upgrade is fully reversible, having been installed on a separate disk. If the upgrade proves unsuitable it will be wiped and the current operating system will continue to be used.

Should the upgrade be suitable, as it is hoped, both operating systems will be wiped and the new operating system installed in the usual place.

This is possible due to advanced partitioning of the disks. The ‘current’ operating system exists on partitions of hard disk B. Hard disk A normally contains recorded television programs and music (but these have temporarily been moved elsewhere) and the ‘test’ operating system exists on partitions of hard disk A.

Because your files and settings exist in a separate partition on hard disk B it is possible for your files to be accessed from an operating system running on either disk. As a result of this your files are now available to you and you can use the operating system without bothering to worry about how it works.

Feedback is sought, particularly record of any freezes as we are looking for evidence of the Intel Video Regression before the upgrade is committed.
