The decision has been made to not upgrade to the latest operating system version (Upgrade details part 1, part 2), but instead to remain at version 9.04, in spite of its various issues & pull in userspace improvements such as KDE 4.3 and the 3.5 series of Firefox via back-ports and other techniques.
The 9.10 upgrade caused tremendous problems including hard-drive corruption and total loss of sound, wifi and mouse functionality on a system which it was used on; the risk that this man occur again is not acceptable and we will not undertake it.
When the next version of the operating system comes around it will be evaluated separately.
A potential re-migration to FreeBSD or another BSD is also currently being evaluated as we are rather tired of (Linux) updates that trash everything. Further information will be coming later on this topic.
