Journal: Frontios Upgrade, Karmic

By: jzw
Dateline: April 19, 2010, at 09:41 PM UTC

Frontios today underwent an upgrade to version 9.10 of its operating system. That version is colloquially known as "Karmic". (Don't ask.)

So far this seems to have escaped the grand tradition of version upgrades botching the entire system, however it's too early to tell for sure. If anything seems broken or odd or there are any overt problems please Report The Problem. Any erratum will be noted. ¹

So far it is noticed that the system is running faster. However, you may experience slowness of logging in or other tasks for a little while as all caches have been cleared, which is perfectly normal.

Another version upgrade will follow in the coming months. The upgrade to Karmic was made to allow the later upgrade to the next OS version.

UPDATE: The launch date for the next MVU is 29 April, 2010. We will wait a bit and see if there any major bugs are reported before upgrading to that version.

¹ For comparison. Ubuntu 9.04 Errata
