Almost all applications have their own help. Try pressing F1 or looking for a help menu.
The Online Helpdesk is building a Knowledge Base please contribute articles to it or let us know what articles you think should be there!
Man pages are the internal documentation of the UNIX operating system. Traditionally, pages have been referenced using this form: "cat(1)" meaning "manpage 'cat' in section 1. Almost all commands and some other topics have manpages. Invocation is in the form shown:
man section command
Where command is the command, and section is optional. For example man cat will show the manpage for cat.
The manpage database is organized into sections, sometimes a page with the same name will be present in more than one section, simply specify the section number before the command, for example man 1 passwd shows the manpage for passwd in section 1 and man 5 passwd shows the password from section 5
You can also search manpages by typing
apropos keyword
and searching through all manpages for keyword.
Before filing a Issue report, you should check Common Problems, the Site NoticeBoard, General NoticeBoard and do an index search for terms relating to your problem. Admin tends to be annoyed if issue tickets are opened about things that are already documented.
To report an issue please go to Vistua Issue Tracking and click "New Issue". You can track your issue by searching for it there.
These documents are formatted for printing, although they can be read online. They are in PDF and DjVu format. PDF and DjVu software is preinstalled on all VNS workstations and can be downloaded for free for other platforms.
