You only need to do this the first time that you use Amarok. Amarok will store your settings for future use. You only need to repeat these instructions in the event that there is a problem.

Before doing any of this, obviously you will need to open Amarok, you can find it in
→ Applications → Multimedia [or Audio/Video or similar]. For your convenience, you can drag the icon from there to the desktop if you desire, however this is optional.
The first time that you run Amarok, it may prompt you to begin setting up with a "wizard" interface. Please press the escape key or click "cancel" to make this go away as we need to change some things that the wizard does not address.
Go to "Settings" → Configure Amarok. In the "general" section please make sure that each of the following are checked:
This will ensure the expected operation. You may of course override these according to your personal taste however these are the recommended settings.

The collection refers to the directory where the music files are stored, its path is /home/music¹. If you do not know what this means do not worry, simply follow these directions.
Make sure "Scan folders recursively" and "Watch folders for changes are checked and then click "Rescan Collection".
This process can take a few minutes the first time through. You do not need to do this again, Amarok will (hopefully) automatically detect new files² as they are added.

Click "OK". You are now ready to use Amarok.
1 If you are using a node connected to the Vistua WLAN and not frontios this path will be different. It will probably be /net/home/music or /usr/share/music. If you do not know, consult your administrator. (If this directory does not exist, please check that you have mounted all remote shares.
2 Hopefully, if this does not seem to work, I.E. Collection News shows music has been added but you do not see it, go to "Tools" → "Update Collection" in the main Amarok window.
