STFU (Southern Tenant Farmers' Union) was founded during the Great Depression as a farmer's union to organize the tenant farmers in the Southern USA and as a result of the "Agricultural Adjustment Administration", an explicitly socialist agency created by the Executive branch to halt the progress of economic corrections in the U.S. agricultural industry.
Under the AAA programs, farm-owners were paid to refrain from farming to induce artificial food shortages that would drive prices up and cause the apparent price of food to rise. This was fallaciously thought to be a way to make the beleaguered agricultural industry prosperous again.
The owners were expected to share this bribe with the tenant farmers. While a small percentage of the landowners did, most did not. This led to the formation of the STFU.
STFU was one of few unions in the 1930s that was open to people with all skin colors. In addition to encouraging nonviolent protest for tenant farmer's "fair share" of the swag, the STFU (rather more morally) promoted the idea that people with different skin tones could work efficiently together, a thought which was met with violence on many occasions.
Hint: this is not the definition of STFU used if someone says this to one on the World Wide Web.
