For instructions on configuring Vistua WIFI please see Wlan.
Wireless Fidelity, better known as WIFI is an IEEE specified standard "over-the-air" networking system that is ubiquitous throught most of the world.
WIFI has limited range and an area covered by Wifi is therefore called a hot-spot and WIFI is considered a LAN not a WAN. Numerous overlapping hotspots can be used to simulate a Wide-Area-Network, however.
Many restaurants, public areas and coffee-shops provide free public WIFI as a means to entice customers to linger (and hopefully order more food) and WIFI is becoming considered a standard amenity in the developed world.
WIFI networks can be either "open" or encrypted. Encryption is usually indicated by the need to enter a password and a lock icon in your system. It is important to not enter sensitive details over a WIFI network that is "open"
Usage note: it is common to spell WIFI "Wifi" or "WiFi". Administration recommends "WIFI". The pagename of this page is Wifi however the page-title is "WIFI".
