Welcome to the User Wiki Area!

We have been forced to lock this page due to repeated vandalism. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

You can create pages for personal use in this area, your pages will publish to http://www.vistua.com/Wiki/YourWikiWord.

Why would I want to do this?

  1. It's easy. Wiki-markup is very simple to use and clear instructions are provided on the edit page itself as well as on BasicEditing (see DocumentationIndex for all the documentation) for instance, to make a link to a page all you type is this [[http://www.example.org]] and you get this: http://www.example.org you can also make a Wikiword link the same way.
  2. It's useful. Todo lists are a great application of Wikis and since you can use a Wiki for anything text-based there are almost no limitations. Announcements, lists, study notes, corrigenda (ok, made the last one up)
  3. It's collaborative. Anyone can change (most) Wiki pages and as soon as they're changed anyone can see that change. No accounts are currently required* and thus you can use this for collaboration with anyone!

How to get Started

  1. Review Basic Editing to get a feel for what you are doing (don't worry about remembering all of that, cheatsheet on every edit page).
  2. Create a page. Look up at your location bar. Change the bit that says HomePage to whatever you want your page title (WikiWord) to be (use CamelCaseLikeThis, trust me it's best to do so) Try to create specific titles, Don't make a WikiWord that's generic like TodoList try JohnsTodoList instead. You'll get a visit from Adam-7 warning that the page doesn't currently exist, below him is a link that says "Create [WikiWord]" click it.
  3. Edit the page, You can use the buttons like a word-processor or enter the simple Wiki markup by hand
  4. You must enter your name in the author field, and it is strongly recommended that you enter a summary of your edits in the summary field. Then click "Publish" (you can also click "Save Draft" to save a draft which will be named YourWikiWord-draft or "Preview" to make a preview appear below the edit window)

How to Edit an Existing Page

  1. Visit the page
  2. Click "Edit" under Page Actions in the Sidebar to your left.
  3. Make your edits. Summarize them (please) and enter your name in the author field. If you're just fixing a typo check "This is a Minor Edit" and then click "Publish"

Note: Most Wiki pages have an "Edit" action available, a few such as the Main Homepage are locked to keep people from editing them and any page can be assigned an arbitrary password to keep people from editing or viewing it.

Reverting Major Mistakes

It is possible to review past versions of a page with the "History" action and restore old ones, so if you screw up badly but have already hit publish, you can undo your error that way.

House Rules

  1. No Spam/Obey the AUP
  2. Please don't use this as a place to host your personal website, open editing doesn't mean "free for all" This service is intended for Vistua Network members.
  3. Don't change what other people said.
  4. Sign your name with four tildes (the wiki autoconverts them and adds datestamp) when editing other peoples pages.

Wiki markup is simple in most cases but can sometimes get very complex, particularly if tables are involved. Hit "Edit" on Support.HomePage to see what I mean. If you are editing someone else's page and you don't know what something does, leave it be.

One installation of PmWiki is responsible for the whole Vistua Hub, this means that it is possible for you to edit most Hub pages, although a few are locked for various reasons. Go ahead and improve existing Hub pages or even create new relevant ones but please keep your personal pages in this area.

* Currently, we do not require the use of usernames and/or passwords except that you may optionally (and this is discouraged) specify a password to view or edit your page, and the administrator can lock pages (for various reasons) to keep anyone from editing them.

If, in the future, WikiSpam or Wiki vandalism gets out of control such measures may be required, but we hope to avoid this.

You are in the User Wiki Area. The contents of this page were created by a Vistua Network member and are not necesarily the views of this station.
