Gist

• Enjoyable entertainment but...
• lacks the moral and intellectual heft of the preceding film
• In all fairness, Casino Royal was a tough act to follow.
• Craig continues to be the best thing about the new franchise.

Plot/story

• Follows immediately from Casino Royale's cliff-hanger ending.
• Mr. White, Quantum, Dominic Green and fake eco-happy-slappy.
• Basically, revenge story. Jamsie hasn't gotten over Lynd yet.
• The plot is not well constructed and again seems very ephemeral.
• The exploding fortress at the end is a tiresome cliche... or is it an instance of lampshade hanging?

Acting/Characterization

• Craig continues to be interesting and eminently watchable
• M is much better used on this film, Dench is wonderful and still has great lines. M is important because she is the only female that Bond doesn't want to have sex with
• Although, he doesn't have sex with Olga, she's more than a match for him at his own job
• Mixed feelings about Felix Leighter. His is campy, and I think supposed to be funny.
• His ludicrously and insultingly stupid Boss, though. (Yes, yes, this is how Americans are perceived but so what?)

Direction/Photography

• Fight scenes are well designed

• Effects, though, are not as good. The motorcycle jump scene is horribly fake looking. Fortunately, there are not too many effects shots.
