Advice about the desktop environment

The terminal you are using is not running MS windows, however most basic operating system interactions are quite similar.

If you plan to use a USB device please consult this article from the Online Helpdesk. The procedure is quite a bit different from Windows and if you don't follow it correctly, especially the "safe removal" bit, the results may not be what you intended.

Firefox is provided and operates identically to MS windows.

OpenOffice 3.1 is available and operates very similarly to MS Office 2000. There are a few bits that aren't quite the same but it has an extensive help file.

Please do not change any settings, no matter how small and please do not leave any files in this account. This account is wiped automatically! You've been warned! If that happens you're out of luck, we can't get them back for you.

Obviously, don't intentionally compromise security or do anything malicious, not that you would anyways.
