Why certain Feeds do not Validate

As you may have noticed, the feed News News & Notes feed does not validate--at least some of the time. This contradicts official Vistua policy that all site pages shall validate. The feed is both "not valid" insofar as compliance with DTD and not well formed insofar as compliance with XML syntax rules
The reason that this feed will not validate is due to technical limitations of the PmWiki engine. There does not appear to be a way to cause PmWiki to render WikiMarkup before putting it in the feed and as such a variety of WikiMarkup formatting codes, which include the angle-brackets are placed directly in the feed body.
Furthermore, the engine seems to insist on adding both pubdate and dc:date markup and will not add a guid element. This not only makes the feed invalid but is actually prone to causing technical problems.
We continue to work with this limitation and hope that the PmWiki developers will rectify these shortcomings in the future.
